In 1899, when TKE was born, our Founders started the Fraternity with the purpose of preparing men for the challenges of society, certainly a noble endeavor. o How can we deepen our innovation in teaching and learning, improve advising and mentoring, and more fully capitalize on student analytics and assessment? We are now developing a systematic, integrated approach to using analytics in decision-making. Our fraternity has been made by the early initiates and this in itself was sufficient vindication of the policy we made use of in securing our first new members. In the decade or so after WWII, the GI Bill provided the opportunity for many young peoplemainly white mento go to college. The measure of success was managing the day in front of them so they could reach tomorrow. Your engagement in Tau Kappa Epsilon will help to define our future. Upon hearing this, I extended my hand, introduced myself, and commented that as the TKE International Board Chairman, I was equally concerned about her son as I am about all of our 11,000 collegiate members. It was a wise bargain for a new university: commuters saved their money by living at home; the state saved money by forgoing the cost of residence halls. As a collegiate Frater serving as an officer, we learn a sense of duty to our chapter and personal responsibility. We had two incompatible networks and two email systems that made it difficult to communicate between academic and administrative staff. We were not in harmony with many of the popular ideals of that time. We shouldnt shy away from these aspects of our past. We also need to recognize that not everything about Wake Forest was founded in the antebellum period. It means cultivating a respectful and open dialogue with those with whom we may disagree. In some ways, connecting with a chapter became easier to accomplish through virtual meetings. TKE Nation now exceeds 285,000 lifetime members and continues to grow stronger every year. We are helping to change the culture of STEM education in the nation from weeding out students to supporting success for all students. Through the leadership of our skilled Chief Executive Officer, Donald Aldrich, our dedicated Professional Staff and critical volunteers, we weathered the pandemic and emerged with a stronger organization.
